The Role
We’re hiring a Head of Data Engineering to take ownership of the systems that deliver our data to tier-one hedge funds. This is the most senior technical role in Hatched. You’ll lead a small but focused engineering team. You’ll be responsible for the design and delivery of the platform that powers our indices, forecasts, and reports, and you’ll help us deliver our ambitious targets for next year.
This role suits someone who is comfortable being hands-on while also setting the technical direction. You’ll build the tools and workflows that allow us to deliver daily data to clients. The work needs a strong focus on automation and smart use of LLMs to improve speed and efficiency.
What You Bring to Hatched
- 6–10+ years’ experience in data engineering or backend engineering, including leading or mentoring engineers
- Strong Python and SQL skills, with deep familiarity with modern data stacks such as Snowflake and AWS
- Experience designing and scaling production data pipelines
- Strong understanding of automation, orchestration, and workflow tools
- Hands-on experience with LLMs or machine-learning automation, or a strong desire to apply them
- Solid engineering fundamentals across database design, CI/CD, Git, testing, and performance optimisation
- Ability to balance short-term delivery with longer-term planning
- A collaborative style with the confidence to challenge assumptions
- A proactive, ownership-driven mindset suited to a fast-moving company
